NIE and TIE appointments in Palma de Mallorca: the complete guide 2026
How to book a cita previa for NIE, TIE and fingerprints in Palma: which office handles what, addresses, opening hours and what to do with no slots.
Extranjería Palma ·

Every immigration appointment in Palma is booked through the same government portal, but it ends up in one of two places depending on what you need: the Oficina de Extranjería for residence authorisations, or the Policía Nacional for the NIE, the TIE and fingerprints. The good news for Palma: unlike most Spanish provinces, both are at the same address.
This guide covers which appointment to book, where you actually go, and what to do when the system shows no slots.
Who you are changes what you book
- British nationals who moved to Mallorca before 1 January 2021 hold — or are entitled to — the Withdrawal Agreement TIE. Renewing it is a different, faster process than applying for residence from scratch.
- British nationals who arrived after that date, and Americans, Canadians, Australians and other non-EU nationals, go through the ordinary immigration system: a visa or authorisation first, then the TIE and fingerprints once it is granted.
- Anyone buying property, a car, or opening a bank account — resident or not — needs a NIE, which is a tax identification number, not a residence permit.
If you are British and want the full picture on which residence route applies after Brexit, see our guide on arraigo in Spain for non-EU nationals.
Which office you go to in Palma
| You need | Handled by | Where |
|---|---|---|
| NIE, TIE issuance, fingerprints, EU registration certificate | Policía Nacional (Oficina de Extranjeros) | C/ Felicià Fuster, 7, 07006 Palma · tel. 971 98 94 41 |
| Residence and work authorisations, arraigo, family reunification, renewals | Oficina de Extranjería (Delegación del Gobierno) | C/ Felicià Fuster, 7, 07006 Palma · tel. 971 98 91 70 |
In most Spanish cities these are two separate buildings, sometimes on opposite sides of town. In Palma, the official Policía Nacional office locator confirms both are at the same address — only the phone number changes.
General opening hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00–14:00, with reduced summer hours from 16 June to 15 September. Nobody is seen without an appointment.
How to book, step by step
- Go to the Sede Electrónica of the Spanish government, ICP Plus system. This is the only official booking site. Third-party sites charging a fee for a “guaranteed” slot are not the administration — at best they are reselling a free appointment.
- Select the province: Illes Balears.
- Pick the exact procedure. This is where most people go wrong, because the dropdown is organised by which office handles it, not by document name.
- Enter your details (passport or NIE number) and confirm.
- Keep the confirmation — you need it to get in.
If you hold a Spanish digital certificate or Cl@ve, booking is faster and avoids passport-number typos that can get you turned away.
Which procedure to search for
| You need | Search for this in ICP Plus | Who sees you |
|---|---|---|
| A NIE for a property purchase, bank account or contract | “Policía — Certificados y asignación de NIE” | Policía Nacional |
| Your physical TIE card after an authorisation is granted | “Policía — Expedición de tarjeta de identidad de extranjero (TIE)” | Policía Nacional |
| Fingerprints for a TIE in progress | Usually bundled into the same TIE appointment, not booked separately | Policía Nacional |
| EU citizen registration certificate | “Policía — Certificado de registro de ciudadano de la Unión” | Policía Nacional |
| A residence application, arraigo, or renewal | “Oficina de extranjeros — [specific procedure]” | Oficina de Extranjería |
When new slots actually appear
⚠️ There is no official published schedule for when new appointments are released — not from the Secretaría de Estado de Migraciones nor from the Delegación del Gobierno in Illes Balears. Treat any site claiming an “exact release time” with caution; it is usually a snapshot, not a rule.
Based on practical experience from people who check daily: new slots tend to appear early on weekday mornings, with occasional releases through the day from cancellations. This is a pattern, not a guarantee, and it can change without notice.
What to do when there are no appointments
- Double-check you searched the right procedure. This is the single most common mistake — the system shows “no appointments” when the real issue is the search term.
- Keep trying on consecutive days, especially early morning.
- Call 060, the general Spanish public administration information line, for system issues.
- Consider professional support. A firm that checks the system daily can catch slots faster and, more importantly, make sure the booking is for the right procedure the first time.
Common mistakes
- Booking the wrong office — Policía instead of Oficina de Extranjería, or the reverse.
- Mistyping the passport or NIE number when booking.
- Paying a third party for an appointment that is free through the official portal.
- Turning up without the confirmation printed or accessible on your phone.
- Arriving with incomplete paperwork, which means booking a second appointment for the same procedure.
