Spain immigration fees 2026: what every procedure costs
Official 2026 prices for the NIE, TIE, EU registration certificate and arraigo in Spain: exact amounts, which form to pay and common mistakes.
Extranjería Palma ·

Spain’s immigration fees changed with Orden PJC/617/2025, in force since 16 June 2025. If you are British, American or any other non-EU national, these are the fees that actually apply to you in 2026 — not the outdated figures still floating around online.
Official 2026 amounts
| Procedure | Form | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| NIE allocation at the applicant’s request | 790-012 | €9.84 |
| EU citizen registration certificate (CUE) | 790-012 | €12.00 |
| TIE — first grant of temporary residence | 790-012 | €16.08 |
| TIE — renewal of temporary residence | 790-012 | €19.30 |
| TIE — long-term residence | 790-012 | €21.87 |
| Temporary residence authorisation for arraigo (any modality) | 790-052, item 2.3.1 | €38.28 |
These apply to non-EU nationals — the large majority of British nationals arriving after 31 December 2020, Americans and other third-country nationals. The Withdrawal Agreement TIE for British residents who arrived before that date follows its own specific procedure, though the underlying fee schedule is the same. EU/EEA/Swiss citizens (and their family members registering under EU free-movement rules) are outside this order, under Real Decreto 240/2007 instead.
How the payment is generated
Form 790 is generated on the Policía Nacional’s website by ticking the box for the exact procedure you are filing. Each box calculates a different amount — there is no single “immigration fee,” only a price per specific procedure.
Ticking the wrong box is one of the most common reasons a file gets returned. If you are unsure whether you are applying for a first TIE or a renewal, check the resolution you already hold before generating form 790: the correct amount depends on where you are in the process, not on what document you expect to end up with.
What this fee does NOT cover
Form 790 covers the administrative procedure only. It does not include:
- Apostille or legalisation of foreign documents.
- Sworn translation.
- A professional’s fees, if you choose to use one.
Common mistakes
- Paying an outdated figure (“€18-25” for the NIE) that no longer matches any real procedure.
- Confusing the CUE fee (€12.00) with the white NIE fee (€9.84) — different documents, different boxes.
- Generating form 790 for “first grant” when the case is actually a renewal, or the other way round.
- Not keeping the payment receipt — it is requested at your appointment along with the rest of the paperwork.
FAQ
Are the NIE fee and the EU certificate fee the same? No. NIE allocation costs €9.84 and the EU registration certificate costs €12.00, on different boxes of form 790-012.
How much does filing for arraigo cost? €38.28, on form 790-052, item 2.3.1, for any modality of arraigo.
Do these fees apply to EU citizens? Not to what is covered by the EU regime (RD 240/2007). Non-EU family members of an EU citizen still follow the general form 790-012.
Does the amount include sworn translation or apostille of my documents? No. The fee covers the administrative procedure only; apostille and translation are paid separately.
Where do I generate form 790? On the Policía Nacional’s electronic site, selecting the exact procedure you are filing.
